Turquoise coast, Turkey (english version)

Good bye Malawi. Hello Turkey.

That is how fast I have changed continents and culture. I haven't been here for long but so far so good. Istanbul is huge and has thousands of little charming corners, but I will have the time to stop to talk about them some other time.

It's best if we talk about the Turquoise Coast today, it's located south Istanbul, closed to Antalya, to the Mediterranean sea. Around Butterfly Valley (Kelebekler Vadisi) there are a few villages and towns to visit, more their braches than for the villages itself.

Ölüdeniz is where it all starts before getting to Butterfly Valley. It is very touristic (very!), they offer you places to eat, boat trips and many different activities. Here comes decision time: either you spend the day (and even a night) at the valley or a day boat trip around different beaches in the area. If you choose the first option there is a taxi-boat from Ölüdeniz to the Valley at various times during the day (first one on that direction leaves at 11, right noe it costs 20 turkish liras ruturn ticket). Many of the other boars will try to convince you that the taxi-boat is either broken or it doesn't exist (or so they say, we didn't have that problem), but the boat will get there. It's different from the rest that it says Butterfly Valley, it is also smaller than the others. The trip takes around half an hour. 

And all of a sudden the valley. A small beach between two massive mountainside, you can only see from the boat the green trees, the white sand (which is not sand but small rocks) and the turquoise water.

We decided to spend the night in the only accommodation place there is (there is a village about 1 hour up the mountain called Faralya). Butterfly Valley is a very basic place, backpackers acco,odation, small huts with a mattress, lots of hippies and volunteers. The price includes breakfast and vegetarian buffet dinner (but the price is per night/person, so it's a bit pricy). You can also have lunch there or go to the other end of the beach to the Fish Restaurant (where they serve everything).

It's true that for a few hours a day there are plenty of boats and many tourists stopping at the valley, but around 2-3 in the afternoon the beach is basically for those who are going to spend the night. 

And then enjoy the sunset.

Back in Ölüdeniz, we had lunch in a cool restaurant (pricy again since it's just for tourists) while watching paragliders land just in front of us. One of the nicest things in Ölüdeniz is its Blue Lagoon. The lagoon is a protected natural beach and to get inside it costs around 5 turkish liras. On the inner side the water is quite warm and it's mostly families with kids. On the outer side you can do some clift jumping or just swim around to cooler water.

La costa turquesa, Turquía (versión española)

Adios Malaui. Hola Turquía. 

Así de rápido he cambiado de continente y cultura. Llevo muy poco tiempo y hasta el momento no puedo poner queja. Estambul es enorme y tiene mil rincones encantadores, pero seguro que tengo tiempo de detenerme en ellos en otro momento.

Hoy mejor hablar de la Costa Turquesa, una zona al sur de Eatambul, cerca de Antalia, que da al Mediterráneo. Alrededor del Valle de las Mariposas (Kelebekler Vadisi) hay un par de pueblos y ciudades a visitar más por sus playas que por su encanto. 

Ölüdeniz es el punto de partida para llegar al Valle de las Mariposas. Es una zona muy turística (en todos los sentidos), te ofertan restaurantes, rutas en barco y diferentes actividades. Aquí llega un momento de decisión: elegir entre pasar el día (y si quieres también la noche) en el valle o hacer una ruta de todo el día por las distintas playas de la zona. Si te decides por la primera opción hay un taxi-barco que parte desde Ölüdeniz al Valle a distintas horas del día (el primero en esa dirección sale a las 11, en este momento el precio es de 20 liras turcas). Muchos de esos barcos que ofertan la ruta intentarán convencerte de que el barco se ha estropeado o que ya no hace esa ruta (al parecer, nosotros no tuvimos ese problema), pero el barco llega. Para diferenciarlo del resto lo primero es que pone solamente Butterfly Valley, además es bastante más pequeño que los demás. El viaje dura una media hora.

Y de repente aparece el valle. Una pequeña cala entre dos inmensas montañas y desde el barco sólo se ve el verde de los árboles, el blanco de la arena (resulta que hay muy poca arena y que casi todo son piedras de diferentes tamaños), y el turquesa del agua.

Nosotros decidimos pasar la noche en el valle en el único lugar donde quedarse (hay un pueblo a 1 hora de camino Faralya montaña arriba). Butterfly Valley es un sitio muy básico, alojamientos en tienda de campaña o pequeñas casetas con colchón, muchos hippies, y voluntarios. El precio incluye desayuno y cena que es tipo buffet vegetariano pero muy variado y amplio (pero ojo, el precio es por persona/noche así que es un poco caro). Se puede comer también allí o bien en el otro lado de la playa hay un Fish Restaurant (donde puedes comer de todo).

Es cierto que hay un par de horas al día que muchos barcos están haciendo su parada en el valle y un montón de turistas, pero alrededor de las 2-3 de la tarde la playa queda practicamente para los que van a hacer noche en el lugar.

Y luego disfruta del atardecer.

De regreso en Ölüdeniz, comimos en un restaurante moderno (más caro otrs vez ya que es muy turístico) mientras veíamos aterrizar parapentes justo delante de nosotros. Una de las cosas más bonitas en Ölüdeniz es la Laguna Azul (Blue Lagoon). Es una laguna natural protegida y la entrada cuesta alrededor de 5 liras turcas. En la parte interior de la laguna el agua es tranquila y cálida y mayoritariamente hay familias con niños. En la parte exterior puedes saltar de alguna roca o simplemente nadar en aguas un poco más frescas.
